PNP Leadership Lacking by serchah Comment (1)

Party in trouble

So Portia is reaffirmed as leader of the PNP.  Now what?

It seems Jamaica likes to mimic American politics. The PNP party is not united and is airing their dirty laundry in public.  Peter Phillips was disgruntled and attempted to unseat the leader of the party.  Clearly he lacked foresight.

Are there not enough severe issues facing the country?  Crime, unemployment, poor educational system, collapsing infrastructure, and countless other problems stall progress.

Is Palin Teflon? by serchah Comment (0)

I had given her until the end of September to bow out.  I figured that with all the controversy and scandals attached to her the honeymoon would end soon.  But it is as if she is made of Teflon.

Just a few of the disturbing issues surrounding her such as: banning books, troopergate, association to Alaska Independence Party, not in favor of women's issues (equal pay, cutting funding for unwed mothers, banning abortion even in the case of rape), cutting the budget for the Special Olympics, not to mention the persistent lying about the "bridge to nowhere" - this woman is scary!

Mile High by serchah Comment (0)
Last night I watched Barack Obama officially accept the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States.

I did not live through JFK's presidency or witness first-hand MLK's speeches. I wanted my children to witness this moment in history. They have been following my interest in the election and have a basic understanding of what is at stake. But, I wanted them to sit and experience this moment. I told them I wanted them to remember where they were when this took place because they would one day relate it to others.

Michelle Obama by serchah Comment (2)

Michelle Obama signed sealed and delivered her well anticipated speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.  She reintroduced herself and her family to the American public with great eloquence.

Over the past months we have seen her caricatured and her gaffs put on loops on the cable news channels.  But on Monday, she was articulate and humble in delivering her story and that of her family.

I am still dumbfounded at the insanity that labels the Obama's as elite.  Yes, the Obama's went to great schools and received a good education.  But it was not because of legacy or family money.  They had scholarships, took out student loans and worked part-time jobs.  Their families sacrificed to give them a better future.

History at the Beijing games by serchah Comment (0)
And so the 2008 Olympics have come to an end.  I must admit I am exhausted from waking up early and staying up late to watch the coverage of the games.

Of course the obvious highlights, for me anyway, were soccer, swimming and track and field.  Phelps is part amphibian, Bolt is appropriately named and watching Brazil during a soccer match is like watching a well choreographed dance.

Usain Bolt And Mi

The events over the pass few days have been phenomenal. It has moved many in many different ways. Jamaica’s own ‘Bumpy Head Gal’ - Joan Andrea Hutchinson was so moved she wrote this poem.
